Welcome to Banana Jam Cafe

If you have ever dreamt of running away to a Caribbean island – then pop into Banana Jam Café.  This vibrant Caribbean restaurant has a breezy, tropical atmosphere – so relax, enjoy the Calypso tunes, sip on a Pina Colada and choose from the wide selection of home-style island dishes. You’ll find that although the vibe may be laid back, the service is fast, friendly and attentive.

Owner run Banana Jam Café is located in trendy Harfield Village, Kenilworth and over the past 12 years has built up a strong following of loyal customers. In 2008 the restaurant moved to its beautiful new premises just across the road from its previous location. Every effort was made to keep the look as close to the original premises as possible. The 150-seater restaurant now boasts a large garden area and an outside deck, where they fire up Jamaican BBQs in the summer months. Come summer or winter, the garden area is always buzzing. At night a roaring wood fire lights up the garden and keeps everyone warm and toasty.

Banana Jam Café offers you an authentic taste of the Caribbean.  Specialties include Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Curried Goat, Jamaican Patties, Pineapple BBQ ribs and Chicken and Chorizo Jambalaya.  Fresh fish and mussels are delivered daily and the menu also includes a wide selection of burgers, pizzas and salads.  Vegetarians are well catered for; try the delicious homemade vegetarian burgers, Sunshine Soup, Mo’bay (Jamaican slang for Montego Bay) mushrooms, Roast Veg Pasta salad or Trinidad Roti to name but few.

Locals rate Banana Jam’s burgers as the best in town. The homemade beef burgers are made fresh on the premises daily and are seasoned with their special blend of island spices and herbs.  The best seller is the Camembert, Rocket and Sweet Chilli burger, which is topped with half a wedge of golden Fairview Camembert.

If you are a rum aficionado, check out the biggest rum collection in the country, which the owners have collected during their travels in the Caribbean.

Banana Jam Café is a proud supporter of locally brewed craft beer and has 10 craft beers on tap. Some like the Van Hunks Pumpkin Ale, Jack Black and Johnny Weiss are permanent fixtures and guest beers appear weekly. They even have their very own brew on tap, the very easy drinking Banana Jam Cream Ale and are brewing a Mango Ale as we speak , which will be available in January 2012. So many beers, so little time- then try the tasting plate-six samplers for R45.

The buzzing Cocktail Happy Hour from 5pm-6pm everyday is not to be missed. Favourites include the ever-popular Green Iguana, Hurricane and Rum Runner.
